I love how Jesus uses what is familiar to the crowd to explain the unexplainable. And I love that he likes the seashore too.

V30 God isn’t ignornant of the tares and unrighteous. He has a plan and a day that will take care of that. I need to just focus on being the good seed and not worry if I’ next to a tare.

V37 on is funny the way Jesus explains it straight out – no fluff and feelings. This is this this is this. Bang. Get it now!?!

    CH14
God’s ways aren’t my ways. A couple of chapters ago Jesus says how John the Baptist is the greatest prophet come our way yet he allows him to be killed by a woman’s grudge. It looks so unfair. And Jesus appears to be emotionally touched by it. Yet from God’s perspective I’m sure John was happy to get to heaven (just the getting there wasn’t too great).

V13-14 LOVE these verse. Here Jesus goes to be by himself and deal with the grief of his close cousin, friend, ministry partner yet he is able to still look beyond his own grief and be “moved with compassion” at the multitudes. I am so thankful that is my God.

V16 I want to see the faces of the disciples when Jesus said “You feed the 5,000” ha ha. So Jesus then says to me “You trust me for _____ or you go talk to ______ and I probably have the same face.

Okay this is like my favorite story in the Bible because God uses the faith of a child who offers up his own lunch while we adults would be like the disciples – what’s the use of offering that; it’s so small compared to the need. BUT if we all would just offer up our talents, no matter how small think they are then God’s mission for the church would be done. He would multiply and do miracles – he just wants what we have on that altar and he’ll do the rest. Love it.

V26 Why is our first reaction always negative “It’s a ghost/spirit?” Why not “It’s God first?”

  2. 13:3-9~ must be a source of comfort for you, Tim.

13:30~ I don't want to be a weed!! What a visual of judgment.

14:28-32~ When Peter started to sink in the water, it was because he was focusing on the big waves around him. What this tells me, is when I feel over-whelmed, do NOT focus on what is over-whelming me, but instead look up at God.

  3. Deb -- It SHOULD be...but it's not. I want EVERYONE to bear fruit.

13:17 -- We see things now that many good, godly people in history could only dream about. (For example, the blessing of having a complete Bible translated in our own language, with all these electronic Bible resources & teachers available to us.) Lord, am I as appreciative as I should be?

13:58 -- Unbelief limits God. Bottom line.

14:14 -- Jesus was often moved by compassion by the plight of the people. Lord, that I may have more of that Spirit!

  4. Chapter 13:

I like the parables because I can remember a story more than a verse, but when I tried to make sense of the parable, I missed the meaning. I hear and see, but am not understanding. Reading the notes helps, but why am I not getting it when I read the scriptures? Lack of Bible knowledge or lack of knowing God?

I can hear Tim..."Ok, Kev, don't beat yourself up...you are reading the Word and that's the point." Thanks, Tim.
